Valencay is a thriving market town with several interesting features. The chateau is regarded by several prominent newspapers as the most interesting in the Loire as it is filled with original furniture and other objects of the period. This was Napoleon's Diplomatic Headquarters, bought by him for Talleyrand, his finance and foreign minister, to enetertain international guests in a sumptuous fashion. Valencay also contains one of Europe's most interesting Automobile Museums. Also available in the area is fishing, horse riding, swimming, zoo etc.
The area is unspoilt and is pure France at its best. It is surrounded by lakes, rivers, forests and attractive villages. Valencay is the newest appellation controllee wine region and there is also an appellation controllee for goat's cheese. It is central to many other wine area.
